• Band: Opt for a Family Radio Service (= FRS) band, if you intend to use the radio for non-commercial and small business purposes. General Mobile Radio Service (= GMRS) band has a higher range, is more expensive, and requires a license.

• Go for a greater number of channels: Look for a two-way radio with a higher number of channels, as it allows for interference-free communication. GMRS radios and decent-quality FRS radios have enough channels to work with.

• Check the size and weight: Buy a lightweight and compact unit, as it is always easy to handle, whether you are on a hiking trip or at work.

• Ensure privacy code features: Choose a two-way radio with a privacy code feature. This allows you to have a clear and interference-free communication with your partner, even in busy areas with a lot of interference from other frequencies.

• Access to weather channels: Select a two-way radio with this feature, if you are an adventurous type that does a lot of camping, and would prefer the feature of weather channels.
