What should you consider when buying a scanner?

Many different types of scanners are available in today’s market, making it somewhat confusing when confronted with a choice. We have assembled a few factors for you to consider before you make your purchase.

• Check the speed: Look for the speed of the scanner that you decide to buy. The number of pages that the product can scan per minute will determine the rate.

• Check the resolution: Choose a scanner based on your type of work. If you work with documents, then 600 dpi would go fine, but if you work with photographs, then you would need a scanner with a higher resolution.

• Decide if you want a simplex or duplex system: Select a scanner based on your need to scan one side of the sheet or both. To scan one side of the material, the simplex system is suitable. For scanning both sides, the duplex system is fine.

• Go for a multi-function unit: Buy a multi-function scanner, if space is not a problem. In that way, you do not have to buy a separate printer, fax, and copier.

• Check the type of handler: Buy the scanner which has both a flatbed and a document feed. The flatbed handler has a glass plate and a lid. The document handler has a feeder mechanism where you can load many papers at a time.
